Analytics & Privacy¶
This page explains what data this site collects when you read a post, why, and what choices you have.
What we collect and why¶
We use Google Analytics 4 to count how many times each post is read. We do not collect anything for advertising, profiling, or cross-site tracking.
What gets sent to Google Analytics¶
When you load a page on this site, the following are sent to Google:
- The page URL without query parameters or fragments (e.g.,
/blog/2026/04/21/post-name/) - The page title
- The URL of the page that referred you here (if any)
- Your IP address — used briefly to derive your country, then truncated and discarded by Google before storage
- Your User-Agent string (browser type and operating system)
- Your screen resolution, viewport size, and color depth
- Your browser language and timezone offset
- Your country, region, and city, derived from your IP address before truncation
What we do not collect¶
- No cookies. No
_ga,_gid, or any other tracking cookies are set. - No persistent identifier. Nothing is stored on your device that links your visits across sessions.
- No demographics, interests, age, or gender. Google Signals is disabled.
- No advertising data. Ad-personalization features are disabled and ad-related data is redacted.
- No outbound link clicks, file downloads, scrolling, video, search, or form events. Enhanced Measurement is disabled at the property level.
How to opt out¶
You can prevent Google Analytics from running on this site at any time by:
- Using a content blocker such as uBlock Origin or Privacy Badger
- Enabling strict tracking-prevention mode in your browser (e.g., Firefox Enhanced Tracking Protection set to Strict, Safari Intelligent Tracking Prevention, or Brave Shields) — these block the analytics script at the network level
- Installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on
We do not gate any content on this — opting out has no effect on what you can read.
Important practical note: we do not store any identifier that links visits to a specific person.
